I liked it here! The atmosphere is really fun (but also relaxing). They have a water fountain when you walk in. The waiting area is a little small, but that's okay with me. I enjoyed the decorations, but I thought the chairs could be more comfortable. I liked the service, and I also liked the food. I got some tofu and some spinach. Both were good. I also tried some eel. It was great. Prices were not super cheap for lunch, but it tasted like they were using good ingredients, so that's okay.

Came here for a weekend lunch to catch up with friends. We didn't really have to wait for a table but if you're coming in a big group, I would recommend making one just in case. I went with the unaju lunch set which is a small portion of their eel over rice with a side of udon noodle soup (I liked that we could choose between cold/hot soba or udon). The portion of eel was more than enough for me (the regular menu version is probably a slightly bigger portion) and the eel sauce mixed in with the rice was very savory. The eel was grilled nicely and the meat was very tender. The udon noodle soup was a nice addition, the noodles were just the right amount of chewiness with no alkaline taste. The soup that it came in was a simple dashi based soup. I should try their soba the next time I visit! Service was very prompt as the staff would clear our dishes as soon as they noticed someone was finished eating. We never felt rushed to leave and took our time catching up (although the restaurant wasn't too full when we left). Restrooms are just a bit cramped with the door being almost right in front of the toilet but it was clean, well lit and had paper towels.

Happy to find out that @sobaya.nyc has lunch sets! I got the cold soba + salmon donburi set and it was the perfect amount of food. The dipping sauce could use more kick, but I loved the texture of the soba!

Favorite spot in the east village to grab some comfort Japanese food. Bonus points if you come for the lunch special (12pm-2pm 7 days a week)
